This project was created as a submission for the Gent Jazz 2026 Design Contest, which invited designers to develop the official visual identity for the festival's 2026 edition. The challenge was to capture the essence of Gent Jazz through a contemporary and distinctive poster design that reflects the festival's identity and broad musical spectrum.
Concept
The concept is built around the idea of layering as a visual interpretation of Gent Jazz: a diverse festival that goes beyond jazz alone, bringing together a wide range of musical genres.
Jazz serves as the foundation—free, playful, and rhythmic—shaped through the interplay of different instruments. Music is also about emotion. Both of these qualities are translated visually in the design through overlapping elements, creating a poster that conveys rhythm, depth, and emotion.
